Bound Prisoner, 1852 by Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Original Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864) Japanese Woodblock Print
Bound Prisoner, 1852

Comments - Unusual kabuki scene of a prisoner brought before a daimyo, his hands behind his back and his upper torso bound with rope. He looks up with an anguished expression as the daimyo seated at upper right gestures imperiously at him with a slender pipe. Guards armed with an iron truncheon and poles stand behind the captive and kneel at right. The men in the room with the daimyo look at the prisoner with worried frowns. An interesting subject with a nicely detailed setting, include a rustic wood step and panels along the back of the room decorated with a seascape.

Artist - Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)
Image Size - 14" x 29 5/8" + margins as shown
Condition - This print with excellent detail as shown. Three separate panels. Slight separation at ends of vertical fold in each panel, repaired. Slight toning and soiling, a few creases and marks. Please see photos for details.
