Original Yoshimune (1817 - 1880) Japanese Woodblock Print
Beauties and Young Boys, 1878
Comments - Interesting triptych depicting a group of beauties and a few boys. At upper left, a woman wears a headdress of "incantation" with three burning candles, used to cast spells, and she holds a hannya mask that portrays a woman whose jealousy has transformed her into a demon. Several of the beauties strike poses while dancing, gracefully extending folding fans. At upper right, a woman lifts a hat above her head as she holds an oar in her other hand, the beauty beside her carrying a blossoming wisteria branch. An attractive and unusual design with wonderful detail.
