Scene from Aiaigasa Chigusa no Iroiro, 1849 by Kuniyoshi (1797 - 1861)

Original Kuniyoshi (1797 - 1861) Japanese Woodblock Print
Scene from Aiaigasa Chigusa no Iroiro, 1849

Comments - Interesting scene from the play "Aiaigasa Chigusa no Iroiro" featuring Onoe Kikujiro II as the beauty Kojoro and Kawarazaki Chojuro III as a young priest of the Kashima Shrine. The boy hops on one foot as he holds a wand of folded papers used in Shinto purification rituals behind his back. The beauty smiles slyly as she looks out of the corners of her eyes, paying no attention to the child. She holds a white cloth out between her hands. Graceful willow branches frame the night sky above, and a pagoda can be seen rising of the treetops in the distance across the water. A handsome design.

Artist - Kuniyoshi (1797 - 1861)
Image Size - 13 7/8" x 9 5/8"
Condition - This print with excellent detail as shown. Backed with heavy paper. Slight toning and soiling. Please see photos for details.
