Ichimura Kakitsu as Amakawaya Igo, 1866 by Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Original Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864) Japanese Woodblock Print
Ichimura Kakitsu as Amakawaya Igo, 1866

Comments - Great kabuki portrait of Ichimura Kakitsu IV as Amakawaya Igo in the "Kanadehon Chushingura," the tale of the 47 ronin, frowning unhappily as he looks ahead. He wears a black and white striped coat over his kimono, and carries a woven hat, his sword at his side. A red sash over his shoulder is tied around a cloth-wrapped parcel and a small wicker trunk. The diagonal edge of a sign hanging overhead adds a dynamic element to the composition. Nicely colored and detailed with fine line work in the hair.

Artist - Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)
Image Size - 14 3/8" x 9 3/4" + margins as shown
Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Small wormhole, repaired. Slight creasing and soiling, a few marks. Please see photos for details.
