Original Chikanobu (1838 - 1912) Japanese Woodblock Print
Series; Ladies' Etiquette Pictures
Bride, 1893 - Beautiful triptych of a young bride being escorted to the wedding ceremony by several married women. The table behind them is decorated with figures of Jo and Uba, an elderly couple symbolizing longevity and fidelity, and cranes and a miniature pine tree, also symbols of longevity and good luck. The women wear colorful patterned kimono, except for the bride, who wears a white kimono with faint embossed detail. Nicely detailed with additional embossing on the white kimono trim, and burnishing on the black obi, black kimono, and black lacquer frame of the screen at right. A lovely image.
