New Year's Day - Lovely scene of upper-class beauties relaxing in a richly furnished palace room on New Year's Day. At right, a beauty keels on a cushion beside a brazier with a design of cranes flying over waves, her black outer kimono decorated with herons in flight and pine sprigs. The woman in the center pauses to look up over her shoulder, dresses in a white kimono patterned with tie-dye motifs over a red under robe. A plum branch covered with white blossoms sits in vase on a low lacquer stand behind her. An attractive design with beautiful embossed detail on the white kimono fabric and collars, and burnishing on the black kimono, the black lacquer trim of the alcove at right, and the lacquer furnishings.
