A Fuji Arts Special Offer Auction
Onoe Kikugoro as Chohi, 1881 - Handsome kabuki portrait of Onoe Kikugoro as Chohi in a play based on the historical tale "Romance of the Three Kingdoms," a story about the three warring kingdoms in China during the third century. Here, Chohi meets with the other two leaders in a peach orchard to take an oath of brotherhood, swearing to serve each other and the state rather than continue fighting amongst themselves. He leans forward with an angry grimace, a pole arm in one hand. He wears an exotic suit of armor trimmed with what look like feathers, and a red cloth headdress. A nice large expressive figures.
