Suspicious Beauty, 1852 by Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Original Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864) Japanese Woodblock Print
Suspicious Beauty, 1852

Comments - Handsome head and shoulders kabuki portrait of the wife Sagami looking suspiciously out of the corners of her eyes. She leans forward as if trying to eavesdrop, one hand resting on her knee. Her kimono features a lovely pattern of flowers and leaves with scrolling stems, and the white collar is embossed with a delicate texture. The black stripes across the top of the image create a bold graphic pattern that contrasts nicely with the delicacy of the floral kimono. An interesting design.

Artist - Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)
Image Size - 13 5/8" x 9 3/8"
Condition - This print with excellent detail as shown. Backed with paper. Horizontal centerfold. Stitching holes at side, repaired. Slight toning and soiling. Please see photos for details.
