Sugawara no Michizane by Meiji era artist (unsigned)

Original Meiji era Japanese Woodblock Print
Sugawara no Michizane

Comments - Handsome portrait of the Heian era scholar and courtier Sugawara no Michizane composing a poem as he looks out at the full moon. After serving as a high-ranking official to Emperor Uda, Michizane was demoted and exiled to Kyushu after the Emperor's abdication, spending his last days there. After his death, he was deified as Tenjin, the Shinto god of learning. An attractive design with a nicely detailed setting, including bundles of scrolls on a low desk and shelves at right.

Artist - Meiji era artist (unsigned)
Image Size - 6 1/4" x 8 5/8" + margins as shown
Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Backed with paper. Slight toning and curling, a couple marks. Please see photos for details.
