Captives at the Chinese Court, 1853 by Kuniyoshi (1797 - 1861)

Original Kuniyoshi (1797 - 1861) Japanese Woodblock Print
Captives at the Chinese Court, 1853

Comments - A fantastic illustration from the Chinese historical novel "The Rise and Fall of Three Kingdoms" showing captives brought before the Chinese court. The three prisoners Ryofu, Kojun, and Chinkyu are led in with ropes around their necks and their hands tied behind their backs. At upper right, Soso, the King of Gi, and Gentoku, the future Chinese Emperor Chao Lieh, watch from the verandah of an elegant pavilion. Fantastic detail in the architectural setting and the expressive figures and faces. An intriguing subject with a handsome composition.

Artist - Kuniyoshi (1797 - 1861)
Image Size - 14 1/4" x 29"
Condition - This print with excellent detail as shown. Three separate panels. A few small holes, repaired. Slight soiling, a few creases. Please see photos for details.
