The 47 Ronin, Act 2: Wakasanosuke’s Mansion - Handsome illustration of Act 2 from the classic play "Kanadehon Chushingura," which tells the story of the 47 ronin. In this scene, Rikiya, the young son of Yuranosuke, delivers a message to Lord Wakasanosuke at his palace. Wakasanosuke's wife, Tonase, sends her eligible daughter Konami to greet the young samurai, as the pair has fallen in love and she wants to encourage them. Konami blushes and giggles behind her kimono sleeve while Rikiya tries to maintain his composure as he waits to deliver the message as Tonase watches from behind a screen. In the background, the loyal servant Honzo cuts a pine branch as a show of support Wakasanosuke's plan to avenge Moronao's insulting behavior. Lovely detail in the fine mansion and grounds.
