Hideyoshi Viewing Cherry Blossoms, 1883
Series; The New Biography of Toyotomi Hideyoshi (Shinsen Taikoki)
Hideyoshi Viewing Cherry Blossoms, 1883 - Fantastic six-panel scene composed of three diptychs showing Toyotomi Hideyoshi and his consorts enjoying a picnic under the cherry blossoms. Hideyoshi sits on a cushion at right, holding out his cup for a drink of sake, a young page holding his sword upright behind him. His second wife Yodogimi stands behind him, waving a folding fan above her head. At left, two beauties arrive carrying fine lacquer boxes and wearing beautiful embossed white kimono with a paulownia design in yellow and red. A colorful fabric tent wall bordered with a red paulownia print provides privacy for the group, stretching across nearly the entire design. A lovely scene of this classic spring activity, with beautiful detail and lively color. Very rare to find complete in six panels.
