Fuji Arts’ Winter Yoshitoshi Senso-e Exhibition
New Documents from Kagoshima: Saigo's Inspection of Mt. Hanaoka, 1877 - Intriguing scene of the rebel commander Saigo Takamori at Mt. Hanaoka, standing on a rocky outcropping as he surveys the battle below. He holds a red leash attached to a dog that darts about his feet. At right, Kirino Toshiaki sits on a red lacquer chair, gesturing with his fan as he gives instructions to a retainer. At left, a shell explodes in a burst of flames and smoke against the night sky. The first time we've offered this rare Yoshitoshi triptych.
