Dogs Attacking a Bear
A Fuji Arts Winter Exhibition Item - We are excited to have purchased a couple Japanese collections with a range of rare and sought after designs. We’ve put them together in a winter exhibition and will post them over one week. The items range from Edo through Meiji and up to contemporary. So, there’s something for everyone. The unifying theme is that each print is a great example or very rare item to find in the market. Enjoy shopping the Winter Exhibition.
Comments - Fantastic contemporary woodblock of three dogs attacking a bear in the woods, the bear rising on its hind legs as it snarls ferociously. The fearless dogs circle the creature, baring their teeth and they dart around him. The bare gnarled trees add a sense of menace to the dramatic design. The translation of the artist's name is our best guess; it might also be read as Seigaku Ozawa, or possibly Kozawa for the family name. The first time we've seen this terrific, large format modern design.
