Original Tsuchiya Koitsu (1870 - 1949) Japanese Woodblock Print
Ushigome Kagurazaka, 1939
Sketches of Famous Places in Japan - In the early 1960s, the publisher Hamamatsu-Do (Doi) re-released a group of classic shin-hanga landscapes by Hasui and Koitsu under the series title "Sketches of Famous Places in Japan." Using the original blocks, Hamamatsu-Do (Doi) printed the designs, which were also distributed by the publisher Oedo Mokuhansha. The series was produced in a limited edition of 200 sets of 28 subjects, very finely printed and beautifully colored. A terrific opportunity to collect a lovely shin-hanga design.
Comments - Beautiful shin-hanga design by Koitsu of a rainy night at Ushigome. Two beauties walk along the quiet Kagurazaka street under a gentle rain, the reflected lights shimmering on the wet surface of the street. A large red lantern glows at left, and light spills out from a doorway and windows. A lovely, evocative night scene. .
