Original Hiroshige III (1797 - 1858) Japanese Woodblock Print
Foreigners Riding Horseback
Comments - Interesting scene of two foreigners riding horseback down a street lined with tea stands. The woman rides sidesaddle, wearing a dress with a long full skirt and a bonnet. Beyond the thatched roofs, the railroad crosses over a bridge with a car at right, and a telegraph line running parallel to it, both signs of the rapid modernization taking place in Meiji era Japan. The snow capped peak of Mt. Fuji appears in the distance. Nicely detailed.
