Original Fusatane (active 1854 - 1888) Japanese Woodblock Print
The Railway at Shinbashi
Comments - Interesting scene of the railway at Shinbashi, which began service to Yokohama in 1872. A few passengers peer out the windows of a car while others can be seen in the locomotive. At lower left, a Chinese man stands beside a fence with a blossoming cherry tree below. Smoke drifts across the sky from the engine, and also from a paddlewheel steamer in the harbor beyond. Nicely detailed.
