Daughter of Dojoji in Edo Purple: Iwai Hanshiro IV by Kiyomasa (1776 - 1817)

Kiyomasa (1776 - 1817) Japanese Woodblock Reprint
Daughter of Dojoji in Edo Purple: Iwai Hanshiro IV

Publisher - Adachi from a rare series of Edo masterwork designs. Adachi publisher seal in margin.

Adachi was one of the most respected publishers of the 20th century. Their woodblocks were printed to the highest standards with excellent color and fine detail. Founded in 1925, Adachi also chose interesting and varied subjects for their prints and was the only publisher of many famous old ukiyo-e images.

Comments - Handsome kabuki portrait of Iwai Hanshiro IV as the shirabyoshi dancer in the kabuki play "Musume Dojoji" (Daughter of Dojoji). She tilts her head up with a coy smile as she strikes a pose, a fan in hand. Beautifully detailed with a shimmering mica background. The first time we've seen this subject in reprint.

Artist - Kiyomasa (1776 - 1817)
Image Size - 15 1/2" x 10 1/4"
Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. A few creases at edges. Please see photos for details.
