Original Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864) Japanese Woodblock Print
Prince Genji Viewing Plum Blossoms, 1853
Comments - Charming spring scene of Prince Genji and his companions enjoying an outing to view the plum blossoms. At left, two beauties help a young princess as she emerges from an elegant palanquin, her sandals ready on the ground before her. At right, a beauty holds a tobacco set as she kneels beside a young man. A bamboo fence surrounds the plums in the center, which are dotted with blossoms and buds, and more trees can be seen in the distance. An attractive design, beautifully detailed with a burnished geometric pattern on the young man's black kimono and embossing on the white kimono trim. The first time we've offered this design.
