Kanda Festival - Famous Places of Tokyo: Past and Present - Hiroshige III's 1883 - 1884 series "Famous Places of Tokyo: Past and Present" illustrated famous sights in and around Tokyo, pairing a historic view of each subject with a contemporary Meiji era one. The Meiji versions often include people in Western dress or modern touches such as rickshaws or stone buildings with glass windows. These charming chuban sized scenes are nicely detailed and vibrantly colored, and provide an interesting look at the changing urban area of Tokyo.
