Dawn at the Villa in Naniwa, 1855 by Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Original Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864) Japanese Woodblock Print
Dawn at the Villa in Naniwa, 1855

Comments - Charming scene of Prince Genji leaving a villa in Naniwa (Osaka) at dawn. He smiles as a beauty helps him on with a sheer black coat through which the pattern of his kimono is visible. At right, a woman kneels on the floor holding his sword upright, while a companion at left hands down a cloth-wrapped parcel to a waiting servant. The verandah opens onto a view of the water with birds flitting across the sky and a red glow spreading along the horizon and the sun rises. An attractive design with fine shading on the water and sky.

Artist - Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)
Image Size - 13 7/8" x 28 5/8" + top margin as shown
Condition - This print with excellent detail as shown. Three separate panels, backed with paper. Vertical folds at edges, light vertical fold in right panel. Slight soiling, slight creasing and rubbing at edges. Please see photos for details.
