Nishikawa, 1867 by Kunisada II (1823 - 1880) and Kyosai (1831 - 1889)

Original Kunisada II (1823 - 1880) and Kyosai (1831 - 1889) Japanese Woodblock Print
Nishikawa, 1867

Comments - Lovely kakemono or vertical diptych of a beauty looking up at the crescent moon, smiling as she pats the side of her face with a fringed towel. In her other hand she holds a pocket mirror atop a stack of tissues. She wears a boldly patterned summer cotton kimono over a red under robe, tied with a striped obi. At upper left, masts rendered in calligraphic line work frame a view of the evening sky with a few birds in silhouette. A charming collaboration between Kunisada II and Kyosai, nicely detailed with faint cloth embossing in the background.

Artist - Kunisada II (1823 - 1880) and Kyosai (1831 - 1889)
Image Size - 28 1/4" x 9 3/4' + margin as shown
Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Two separate panels. Slight paper remnants on reverse at corners from previous mounting. Small losses at corners and slight thinning at edge, repaired. Slight creasing, slight soiling and a couple folds at edges, spot. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
