Original Meiji era Japanese Woodblock Print
Series; Famous Places in Tokyo: Twelve Months and Four Seasons of Beauties, 1901
Famous Places in Tokyo: Twelve Months and Four Seasons of Beauties - Charming design from a 1901 series pairing beauties with famous places in Tokyo throughout the year. With one design for each month, the prints feature beauties in the foreground with insets depicting well-known locations in Tokyo. Details highlighting the modernization of Japan during the Meiji era appear in some images, such as Western clothing and streetcars, while others illustrate traditional dress and seasonal activities. Nicely detailed. The first time we've seen this interesting and attractive series.
