Fire: The Fishing Fire, 1852 - Terrific Kuniyoshi triptych of Prince Genji and three beauties on the bank of a river, watching fish swimming in a large wooden tub. Prince Genji wears a fine robe shaded from pale orange to soft blue-green, smiling happily as kneels beside the tub. The beauty in the center giggles into her kimono sleeve at the wriggling fish, and the woman at left carries a fine lacquer pail of water. Cormorant fisherman are busy at work on the river beyond, attracting fish with flaming fire baskets, the orange light reflected on the shimmering water. A blossoming cherry tree frames the beautiful landscape. Nicely detailed with delicate embossing in the white kimono collars and trim, and soft shading in the water and night sky. A lovely design illustrating Chapter 27, "The Fishing Fire," from the classic novel, "The Tale of Genji."
