Sawamura Sojuro III in His Dressing Room with Segawa Kikunojo III - Terrific scene of the kabuki actor Sawamura Sojuro III in his dressing room, drying the side of his face with his kimono sleeve. He ahead with a rather distraught expression, a beauty kneeling at his side. A small towel is draped over a mirror on a makeup stand, and a shallow tub of water rests on the floor nearby. Segawa Kikunojo III crouches beside him, dressed for a female role. Behind her, a small shelf holds different hairpieces, and colorful kimono are stacked atop a large trunk. A fascinating look backstage, nicely detailed and colored. Not often seen in reprint. An original label and seal on the reverse indicates that this print was published by the National Museum, the name of the Tokyo National Museum from 1947 - 1952. The museum commissioned high quality reprints of many of the ukiyo-e masterworks in its collection.
