Ichikawa Danjuro V in His Dressing Room
From an untitled series of actors backstage
Ichikawa Danjuro V in His Dressing Room - Terrific design of the actor Ichikawa Danjuro V relaxing in his dressing room smoking a pipe. He wears striking red stage makeup and a flared wig. A man kneels before him holding a book, and a small brazier rests on the floor between the two men. A large makeup mirror and a wig on a stand fill the background along with a huge trunk. A great look at an intimate moment backstage. A great subject for a kabuki collector, rarely seen in reprint. An original label and seal on the reverse indicates that this print was published by Imperial Household Museum, the name of the Tokyo National Museum from 1900 - 1947. The museum commissioned high quality reprints of many of the ukiyo-e masterworks in its collection.
