Original Meiji era Japanese Woodblock Print
Illustration of the Maple Leaves at the New Palace, 1888
Comments - Handsome scene of the Meiji Emperor and Empress and members of the court enjoying the autumn foliage from a room overlooking a garden at the New Imperial Palace. The group gathers around a cloth-covered table, the men dressed in military uniforms. Two of the women wear traditional dress, while the third is dressed in the latest European fashions. Colorful maple leaves frame a view of a waterfall cascading into a pond, with the snow-capped peak of Mt. Fuji visible in the distance. An attractive design with wonderful detail.
